1400 miles is low but where and how rough was the riding. It took a good shock to break the metal and if much of the rest of the 1400 miles was off the smooth roads, then the bike would have taken excessive vibrations as well. Shock and vibration are the two evils to mechanical systems.
All the Savage is a big motor connected via gears, pully, and belt to a wheel. My concern would be with the gears and pully. If they have been shaken out our mechanical alignment, you are looking at a hassle.
Maybe if they are willing to give you the extended warrantte for two extra years over the original 1 year. My guess is that they will not but they will offer to sell it to you. I'd buy it because you are talking about obvious abuse of the bike, of some sort. In my business, any observation out of the normal is considered a red flag.
Good luck and maybe excercise some patience. I know it is getting to be 'high season' for biking and you have an itch, but don't screw yourself.
KTRSD (once you get your bike that is)
